Hello, my name is Ian Steele and I am developing this website.
Why should you choose me for science tutoring?
-
18 successful years of biology, chemistry and physics teaching. I have taught all 3 sciences throughout this time. I have taught all ages and abilities from bottom set Year 7 to A level Biology and AS Chemistry.
-
An unquenchable enthusiasm for teaching all the sciences.
-
Many years of developing high quality revision programmes and materials to help students prepare effectively for examinations.
-
12 years of examining experience. I have marked SATs papers and biology papers. Presently I work for AQA as an assistant examiner for GCSE physics. I also work for OCR marking 21st Century papers and moderating 21st Century coursework. I know what examiners look for when they are marking which means I know how to prepare students for exams.
-
Over the last 3 years I have taught all of the core and additional science specifications available from AQA and OCR exam boards.
A brief history of ………
I have now been teaching since 1992. During that time I have had the privilege of working in a number of different schools. I learned how to teach at an excellent secondary school in Huddersfield called Shelley High School. From there I moved to be Head of Biology at Maltby Comprehensive School followed by a move to Meadowhead School, Sheffield as the Head of Science.
I left my job at Meadowhead at the beginning of 2009 after 7 very successful years and began retraining in IT. Although I enjoyed the stimulus of a new career I missed the fulfilment of working with young people and inspiring them to a love of science.
I started my career as a biology teacher but quickly became obsessed with chemistry as it was easier to come up with weird and wonderful experiments to capture students’ interest. Eventually I began to take an interest in physics since there was a shortage of teachers to teach the subject. When I left my full time teaching job I was actually a full time physics teacher! I now can’t decide which subject I prefer to teach but I do know that teaching any of the three is extremely satisfying.
